Legion is dead, so no reason to link anything.
If Dust ever moves to a new platform, it will probably be an evolutionary step away from Dust. So based on it and it's mechanics, but with better graphics and hopefully more meaningful gamemodes.
If that means, that you have to make the step to the new platform at a certain point, then I'm fine with that. Though I must say, that I'm pretty biased towards which platform it will run on. PC is just not my cup of tea, though I would make the stretch for other games, Dust is a more casual game for me, and for that I much prefer the console (PS4) over a PC.
Having both games connected at that point (be it on PC or PS4, will probably take away quite a bit of resources, just to get things connected. This is not worth it, so I'd rather have them doing a cut at a certain point, leaving Dust on PS3 for as long as it's feasable (player count) and when most people have moved to the new platform, just shutting PS3 support down and focus on the new platform. |

If legion was dead CCP would have announced it. The question here is how to keep the community happy when we reach the point where we have to pick between PC and PS4. Theirs no resources needed, its just two different games reading the same database data. it would take less then a month to set it up. I see that it doesn't make a difference to you over where the platform moves (It doesn't effect me ether, i'd be happy to see it on PC) to but for 50% of the community it does. is this a solution to THAT problem
I don't think it would be that easy. They will introduce new stuff to the game on a new platform. They probably will even alter the mechanics a bit. Having a character in both games just doesn't make sense. I'd rather have them focus on making a great new game based on what we can squeeze out of Dust, than trying to please everybody and just ducttape two games together.
If the games are basically identical (Dust and it's successor) except for maybe some new gamemodes. Than it would be possible to link the two for the old gamemodes. But if that gives the devs any headaches, or increases the time they need to develop a good new version of Dust, then I'd prefer they keep them seperate, and just move characters one way from Dust to the new version... |
